Chaotica: The Queer Club Night Redefining Events in South London

What do you get when you mix techno, fashion, rebellion, resilience, and a whole lot of glitter? You get Chaotica – the grassroots LGBTQIA+ club night shaking things up in South East London.

Founded by Remi Martin, Chaotica isn’t just a party… it’s a statement. Born from a need to carve out space for QPOC creatives and a love of dance music culture, Chaotica exploded onto the scene with a sold-out debut featuring none other than LYNKS. The response? Loud, proud, and overwhelming in the best way.

Remi, who curates, promotes, and produces the entire night solo, shared what sparked the idea: “As a dark-skinned QPOC creative, we’re not really given the same metric of visibility in entertainment. I wanted to create a blanket of opportunity for people like me. I know how special we are to club culture – and I wanted that to be part of my legacy.”

Legacy is the word. Because Chaotica isn’t just about beats and bodies on the dancefloor – it’s about storytelling, survival, and celebration. From Remi’s own journey of overcoming homelessness to founding a nightlife experience rooted in safety, joy, and high-fashion chaos, every element of Chaotica is intentional.

“I want everyone who comes to Chaotica to feel safe… like the main character in their best Zone 1–2 outfit, dancing in the dark to techno with joy and freedom,” Remi told us. “Nightlife can be wild. I’ve had times I was left behind by friends, queer and not. I never want anyone to feel like that at Chaotica.”

That’s why community care is built into the structure. The organisers are on-site and always ready to help, from calling Angela (iykyk) to investing in Ubers if someone feels unsafe. The venue – Old Nuns Head in Nunhead – is close to Remi’s heart and has their full trust. “It’s a pub I used to work at. Shout out to mama Allie,” they added.

The vibe? Think self-expression, fierce fashion, and a dancefloor where everyone feels like they belong. Whether you’re dancing under strobes or watching a GoGo queen turn the bar into a runway, Chaoticamakes sure everyone feels seen. Remi says, “I see myself in a lot of the people I curate for. You never know who’s the next big thing – it could be any of us. That’s why I do this.”

The South East London scene – and Peckham specifically – has played a big part in shaping that mission. “I came to Goldsmiths in 2016 and started going out a lot, not really knowing what nightlife meant for me yet. Over time, I realised which events really had safeguards in place for people like me. Not every space does. But the good ones stick with you.”

And now, Remi is building their own good one. A space where the gogo dancers, like Mia Shanti, Seraphina Polerina, and 444sfields, are celebrated. Where the music is sweaty and euphoric. Where the crowd doesn’t just show up, they belong.

So what’s next? A Chaotica comeback this June aligned with Pride Month, plus big dreams of launching a performance-led social night that puts queer talent front and centre. Think less “club night,” more cultural reset.

And for anyone thinking of launching their own event or brand, Remi keeps it real: “Don’t let money be the only thing stopping you… but be honest. Work with people who get the vision, who’ll grow with you. You don’t need big names, you need a better vision.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Chaotica is what happens when community, creativity, and chaos come together with purpose.
