Beings: From Spontaneous Jams to a Rising Force in Post-Rock

Emerging from Northampton’s vibrant music scene, Beings are a band with roots in spontaneity and evolution. Their story reflects the power of collaboration, experimentation, and the local community that has embraced their eclectic sound.

How It All Began

The journey of Beings began in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Founding members Alex, Alex, and Sam were part of a band that wasn’t quite clicking. When their bassist left, they found Aiden through a Facebook post, officially forming Beings. A final lineup change came early in 2024 when Ewan stepped in for Sam, who had to step away. The group clicked instantly, solidifying their lineup and setting the stage for the unique sound they now create.

Crafting a Unique Sound

Influenced by bands like Foals, Squid, Dry Cleaning, and Interpol, Beings started crafting songs born out of spontaneous jams rather than premeditated styles. The result? A sound they describe as “Post Rock,” with some calling it “schizophrenic rock” for its unpredictable shifts and dynamic energy. While the label might be cheeky, it aptly captures the band’s ability to explore multiple moods and textures within their music.

The Story Behind the Name

The name Beings came out of necessity – they had an EP ready to release but no name to go with it. After deliberation, “Being” was chosen for its simplicity and versatility. It resonated with the band’s ethos and became the banner under which they’ve grown.

Key Milestones

Headlining Twinfest stands out as a major achievement for the band. The opportunity to be featured so prominently in a festival was both validating and exhilarating. Recording their first two EPs with Neil at Parlour Studios in Kettering was another pivotal moment. These projects were not only well-received but also invaluable learning experiences for the band.

A Special Place for Northampton Venues

Local venues have played a significant role in Beings’ development. Their first gig at The Lamplighter in Northampton was a supportive launching pad, and The Garibaldi remains a favourite spot for unforgettable shows. Known for its lively crowds, it’s a space that feels like home to the band, both on stage and as attendees.

Community Support and Collaboration

The Northampton music scene has been a nurturing environment for Beings. Nancy and Howard from Picky New Promotions have been instrumental in their growth, offering guidance and support. Paul from Stalker Studios is another key figure who has bolstered the band’s journey. With these allies and a thriving local scene, Beings have found the foundation to flourish.
