That ’90s Festival: Dupex Reflects on Corby’s Throwback Party

If you weren’t at That ’90s Festival in Corby, where were you? Seriously, because from what we’ve heard, it was an absolute blast—and we’ve got the lowdown straight from the man behind it all, Danny Upex, aka DJ Dupex.

Held at The Junction on August 31st, this was the event to relive your favourite ‘90s bangers, and by all accounts, it delivered big time! We caught up with Danny after the festival to get his take on how it all went down, and let’s just say, he’s still riding high from it’s success. Here’s what he had to say about the event that brought the ’90s rave scene back to Corby.

So, How Did It Go?

In one word? Unbelievable. Dupex was buzzing as he reflected on the festival: “We had amazing feedback from everyone in town. I looked at the stats from the ticket sales, and we had people coming from as far as Nottingham! For a local festival in Corby, that’s massive.”

For Danny, it wasn’t just about ticket sales (though those were impressive). It was about the vibe—and boy, did it deliver. The moment that stuck with him? Baby D closing the night with “Let Me Be Your Fantasy” as fireworks exploded overhead. “I stood back and just watched it all happen. You know when you’re so in the moment you almost can’t believe it’s real? Fireworks going off, music pumping—it was epic.”

Bringing Iconic ’90s Acts to Corby

If you were there, you know that the lineup was legendary. Ian Van Dahl took the crowd back in time with his anthem “Castles in the Sky,” and Baby D brought the house down. But Danny shared that these ‘90s icons didn’t just show up—they were blown away by the Corby crowd.

“Ian Van Dahl asked me before his set what kind of vibe he should go for—he could’ve taken it a bit easy, but I said, ‘No, go all in!’ And he did. Afterwards, he and his team were like, ‘That was incredible, we need to come back!’ That kind of feedback is unreal.”

Community Love

One of the coolest things about That ’90s Festival is how much of a community effort it was. Danny didn’t just book big names; he made sure to shine a spotlight on local talent, businesses, and venues. “I wanted this festival to be for everyone—not just about bringing in famous acts but giving local talent a platform,” he said. “From the support acts to the security, everyone was local. It was amazing to see the community come together like that.”

And Corby was loving it! “The feedback on the day was so positive. People were coming up to me, people I didn’t even know, just saying how much they were enjoying it. There’s no better feeling.”

Challenges and Lessons Learned

As with any festival, there were challenges, but Danny took them in stride. He admitted there was a steep learning curve, especially when it came to dealing with things like local authorities, licensing, and the police. “I had no idea I’d be working with local MPs and getting into the nitty-gritty of policies and legislations, but it was an experience. I learned so much.”

Now that the dust has settled, Danny’s already thinking about how to take things up a notch. “There’s always room for improvement, and for next year, I want everything to be even bigger and better. But for my first big festival, I’m super proud of how it turned out.”

What’s Next?

If you missed out on That ’90s Festival, don’t worry—Dupex isn’t slowing down. Next up is a Halloween party at The Junction on October 26th. Expect spooky vibes, scare actors, themed drinks, and all the eerie extras to make it a night to remember. Tickets are selling fast (no surprise there), so grab yours before they’re gone.

And for those already planning their summer 2025? You’ll be glad to know That ’90s Festival is coming back in August 2025, and Danny’s hinting it’ll be even more spectacular.

“I’ve got so many big ideas for next year—more local collaborations, bigger stages, and some huge brands involved. Watch this space!”

Want to Get Involved?

Danny’s all about giving local talent the chance to shine. If you’re a DJ, a business, or just someone who wants to help out, he’s got open arms. “I’m always looking for local DJs who want to be part of this. There’s so much talent in Corby and Kettering—people who are incredible but haven’t had their shot yet. This festival is for them.”

Businesses are also welcome to join the party. “The more local businesses we can get involved, the better. It’s all about building up our community.”

So, if you’re ready to get involved, drop Dupex a message on Facebook and be part of something epic next year!
