We had a chat with event organiser and Corby native, Danny Upex, and boy, is he passionate about this. He’s convinced that 90s music is where it’s at. “If you listen to the radio now, all the songs sound the same,” Danny says. “90s music was all different and amazing. They just don’t make it like they used to.”
This isn’t just another festival; it’s a chance to relive an iconic decade with a lineup that’s straight out of your wildest dreams. And, it isn’t just about the music either. Danny’s got some fantastic 90s-themed surprises in store and tells us that the stage production is going to be massive, making it unforgettable for everyone.
Supporting Local Talent and Venues
One of our favourite things about That ’90s Festival is its dedication to local talent. Danny’s all about giving Northamptonshire musicians and businesses a stage. “All the support acts, security, stage managers, and staff are local. It’s all about embracing our community and giving them a chance to shine,” he says.
Local venues like The Junction are crucial for events like these. Danny highlights the importance of supporting these venues, explaining, “There aren’t enough local venues, and the ones we have are often overlooked. This festival is a chance to show how vital these places are for our community. People often complain that there’s nothing going on, but events like this prove that we can create amazing experiences right here in our home town.”
The response from the community has been phenomenal. “Ticket sales are insane,” Danny beams. “People are so excited about something happening in Corby.” And with drinks capped at around a fiver, it’s going to be a night of fun without breaking the bank (the dream!).
So, What’s Next?
Danny’s already got big plans for the future. “This is just the beginning. We’re aiming for bigger and better next year, with even more local collaborations and some huge brands on board.”
